Schools to reopen in Lahore, Multan tomorrow as smog subsides

The Punjab government will reopen educational institutions in Lahore and Multan from November 20 as smog levels ease. The Environment Protection Department issued a notification mandating facemasks for students and teachers. The Air Quality Index (AQI) improved from a hazardous 1600 to an “unhealthy” level. Lahore, previously the world’s most polluted city, now ranks eighth on the global AQI index due to improved air quality in the region.

Schools to reopen in THESE cities tomorrow after smog ease

Schools in parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi Division, will reopen tomorrow as smog levels ease. Previously closed from November 17 to 25, the decision follows improved air quality in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, and Chakwal. Toxic smog remains a concern in Lahore, ranked the world’s second most polluted city with a 497 AQI. Outdoor activities in Lahore were earlier banned to mitigate the smog crisis.

Punjab closes schools and colleges in five more divisions amid smog

In response to rising air pollution, the Punjab government announced the closure of schools and colleges in five additional divisions. The Environmental Protection Department ordered educational institutions in Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Sahiwal to remain closed. According to the directive, all schools from nursery to grade 12 and academies and tuition centers will be closed from November 13 to 17 due to worsening smog.

The Punjab government has announced a one-week closure of primary schools in Lahore from November 4 to 9 due to worsening smog and air quality. Senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stressed prioritizing student health amid the pollution crisis. With Lahore facing severe air pollution, the decision aims to protect residents, especially children, from the health impacts of the hazardous air, as per Punjab’s Environment Department notification.

Internet services to remain suspended on September 22

The Punjab government will suspend mobile and internet services on September 22 during the MDCAT to prevent cheating. Services will be cut off within 500 meters of test centers in 12 districts, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and D.G. Khan. A total of 82,500 candidates are expected to appear for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test across Punjab on this date.

Public holiday announced in major cities on Monday

A public holiday has been announced in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi educational institutions on Monday, August 26, on Chehlam Hazrat Imam Hussain. The holiday will be applicable in all schools, colleges, and universities. The Education Department of Sindh has also announced the closure of public and private schools in Karachi due to Chehlam processions and related activities.

Sindh announces major decision for schools’ summer vacations

Due to prevailing weather conditions, the Sindh government extended summer vacations for all schools until August 14. The Sindh Education Department announced that the new academic year will start on August 15. Both private and government schools will remain closed until August 14. Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah made this decision due to intense heat and forecasted monsoon rains to ensure student safety.

BSEK Reschedules Exams After Youm-e-Takbeer Holiday

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) announced a new schedule for matric exams postponed due to the May 28 public holiday for Youm-e-Takbeer. Controller examination Khalid Ehsan stated that the exams are rescheduled for Sunday, June 2. The 9th class Urdu paper will be in the morning shift, followed by the 10th class General group’s paper in the afternoon shift.
